Hole in the Wall

Description

This is a great out and back ride that follows the flat dirt Steamboat Ditch Trail to the Reno renowned “hole in the wall.” And by renowned, it’s just a hole in the mountain that serves as a good turn around point (unless you go up and over it to the rarely accessed West Side). The Steamboat Ditch Trail is one of the most famous and beloved trails in the area as it always seems to be reasonably well maintained, can be easily accessed from many points throughout the city, and features some truly surprisingly great mountain views. The trail is great for families with kids that have mountain or cross bikes or people that want to dip their toes into the world of gravel/trail riding.

This is a popular trail so you’ll likely be dodging some people. If you go in the early evening it will likely be less crowded and feature the prettiest lighting. The Ditch Trail actually extends much further into central Reno but the track I’ve outlined here is my favorite portion of the trail. If you enjoy trail riding or running and are looking for a quick way to escape the streets and take in some good scenery, this route is highly recommended.
